Zcash Plans a Quantum-Ready Privacy Fix

Developers behind Zakura have proposed a privacy improvement for Zcash swaps made through NEAR Intents. At present, a refund address linked to a private ZEC transaction can be recorded on NEAR’s public blockchain. A sufficiently powerful quantum computer could theoretically use such information in the future to uncover a user’s wider payment history. The proposed change would assign a separate viewing key to each swap, limiting the information exposed if a particular refund address were compromised. Users would retain control of their spending keys, while a private information retrieval system would help wallets locate refunds without revealing which addresses they are checking. No quantum computer has demonstrated the ability to break these keys, and the threat remains theoretical for now. Still, developers are working on safeguards ahead of their broader quantum-resistance plans. Track ZEC exchange rates on xbit.money and compare available exchange conditions before making a transaction.
