XRP Unlock: $1B Coming Soon

XRP just broke a key psychological level — on August 12 the token slipped below $1 for the first time since November 2024, and it's now down nearly half from where it started the year. Against that backdrop, the market is bracing for Ripple's next routine escrow unlock: on September 1, the company will release 1 billion XRP from smart contracts set up back in 2017, as it does every month. Historically, Ripple re-locks 60–80% of that amount into fresh escrow almost immediately, leaving only around 200–300 million tokens actually available for circulation. XRP's circulating supply currently sits near 62.7 billion out of a 100 billion cap. While the monthly unlock is old news to the market and rarely triggers sharp moves on its own, a weak market can amplify even a fully expected event.
