US Clarifies Stablecoin Rewards Rules
The U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has issued a final rule implementing the GENIUS Act, covering stablecoin issuers and their relationships with trading platforms. One of the main issues concerns rewards that crypto services offer users in connection with stablecoin activity.
The regulator has not provided a universal list of permitted reward programs. Existing offers are not automatically exempt either: compliance will be assessed according to the circumstances of each arrangement. As the new framework is applied, some platforms may need to review or adjust their reward conditions.
For users of USDC, USDT and other stablecoins, it is important to distinguish a token's dollar peg from additional platform incentives. Rewards are not guaranteed returns and may depend on service-specific terms and regulatory requirements.
