Solana Sets October 21 for Alpenglow

Solana has scheduled its major Alpenglow upgrade for October 21, targeting transaction finality in approximately 150 milliseconds. The change could make payments faster and improve the network’s usefulness for services that need quick confirmation. Alpenglow will replace Solana’s existing validator voting system, moving votes off-chain and introducing a new process for confirming blocks. As a result, the network’s reported transaction count may drop sharply after activation even if actual user activity remains steady. The upgrade also requires validators to prepare compatible software before the migration. Although the 150-millisecond figure is a target rather than a guaranteed result, the update is an important development for Solana’s infrastructure.
