Coinbase Launches UK Derivatives
Coinbase has launched a suite of derivatives products for professional investors in the UK, another step in its "Everything Exchange" strategy aimed at bringing crypto, stocks and other financial instruments onto one platform. Access will roll out progressively to clients who meet professional-investor eligibility and will cover more than 170 contracts spanning crypto, commodities, equities and forex. Perpetual futures will trade around the clock with leverage up to 50x, dated futures with fixed settlement will offer up to 20x leverage, and options will initially be limited to crypto assets, including calls, puts and multi-leg strategies. The launch follows Coinbase's MiFID license from the UK's FCA, granted in July. The exchange recently also opened access to nearly 4,000 US stocks for UK users. Coinbase says crypto derivatives volume typically runs about 4.4 times higher than spot trading volume.
