Coinbase Gets CFTC Clearing Approval
Coinbase has received CFTC approval to launch Coinbase Clearing LLC, completing its regulated derivatives infrastructure in the United States. The company says the new clearinghouse is the first U.S. clearing organization designed around native USDC collateral. Coinbase now has the three key regulated components of its derivatives stack: an FCM, a DCM and its own DCO. The new infrastructure allows Coinbase to create and settle fully collateralized contracts directly, using USDC as collateral with 24/7 settlement. The company says the setup should make it easier to develop and launch new regulated products over time. The move also highlights the growing role of stablecoins in institutional trading infrastructure, beyond their traditional use for spot-market settlement.
